I seem to be the "Senior" corps member on this site and
remember the corps from it's inception. I was a member of the
award-winning color guard, a guard no one could come near as
far as medals and trophy's, thanks to Mr. Smith. I was also the
drum major for the junior corps, complete with blue capes, which
were a remnant from another corps. Remember white bucks, cold
facecloths before a competition, getting fitted for uniforms, "The
Bell's of St. Mary", musters, Firemen parades, Northeastern's, St.
Patrick's Day parades, picnic's at Alley Pond Park? Everywhere we
go, we seem to meet someone who has been involved in drum
corps and the great influence it had on all our lives. Thanks, Sal
for the memories!

I remember all those things that Eileen mentioned. We all grew
up being a part of the corps. It's amazing how many people you
meet that were involved in drum corps when they were young.
My husband & I met in the Sunrisers and now we have 2 sons in
the Boston Crusaders. I guess it in the genes! Hope to see some
more people write on here. Great work Sal!

It wasn't just a title of a novel by Proust. It was a reality in our
lives. Sal it's great to see that all the money spent on your hot
dog eating contest wasn't wasted. As some of the members have
already stated Drum Corps was a way of life which helped us all
grow up together. All of you were a great joy and inspiration to
me as a "new priest" who had a great deal to learn and you all
helped me to do that quickly. one of you is now my attorney and
one is even the plumbing contractor who does the maintenance
of my church and school and convent. All of you are treasured in
my heart. There have been so many many wonderful moments of
remembrances. Thanks for the great initiative Sal! A former

Comments
Hi Guys and Gals! I'd like to propose a trivia contest sort of. Lets
see how many songs we can come up with that the Stormy
Knights played either in standstill, on the field or even in a
parade. If you can, tell us what year we played it in. We might
be able to even reproduce a whole show. I'll start. I'm going
waaaayyy back. "Just a Spoon Full of Sugar" I think from 1972?
I'll throw one in one more I think from 1983: Theme from Raiders
of the Lost Ark. You can either submit it here or e-mail me. Get
those brain cells clicking! Sal

what it was like to go from "Fife and Drum" to "Drum and Bugle".
When did that happen? Were we ever Fife, Drum and Bugle? Did
it happen before M&M or because of it? How did the Fifer's take
to losing their Fife line? That must have been a tough transition!
Someone out there drop me a line!!! Don't post it on this board,
as it just doesn't display well. I'll post it in the History section.

For sharing your memories with us. Eileen Schlecht-Glover
submitted over 30 pictures and they were all great. She even
trusts me with a family VHS tape that contains standstill and
M&M footage. I'm in the process of digitizing the footage now
and figuring out how to distribute it. Please rummage thru your
old stuff to see what you can find. I went through an old box of
audio cassettes and found a complete recording from 1984. I
should be able to post it, though it will be a big download. I look
forward to hearing from you. Sal

Subject: Early Years
Comments
Well, I guess I am the "oldest" member in standing with the
corps. Not me old, my time in the corp. I joined the very first day
of sign ups. I was too young, just 7 1/2 years old and you had to
be 8, but I was determined to join and I did! I stayed through
fife and drum standstill, fife, drum & bugle and the beginning of
M&M, until I was 18 years old. I have many great memories and
learned a great deal in the corps. I wouldn't trade those years
for anything. I looked over the pictures that Eileen & I had and
came up with many names, but unfortunately I cannot remember
them all. I am still working on it though! Keep up the good work!

Hello to all former Stormy Nights! Seeing some of those pictures
brought back great memories. I remember the great times we all
had first as fife and drum and then as M&M. Does anyone
remember the finger?(no not that one). It was French horn thing
and was actually a pinkie. I remember painting a picture of a
hand with a pinkie raised on my horn case. I wasn't such a great
player, but I could be creative. Hope to hear from more of you.

My brother Ed called today and told me about the pictures on the
site. The memories are returning. I was also one of the
"originals" and played the fife until we changed over to
M&M. Sal,I think the reason we went from fife, drum and bugle
standstill to M&M was because there was no more challenge in
standstill. M&M was the next logical step. I can still remember
the first practice with Carmen Cluna. He was tough but I can still
march one foot in front of the other with my eyes closed in a
straight line! Sal, I think I remember some of the missing names
in the 1963 picture and will send them along to you. Its great to
hear from so many fellow members.

I'll give Mike a call, he only lives in the same town as me! Hey
Ed, I think I remember the pinkie. Didn't you Frenchies get
pinky-itis from the ring on top of the horn that you had to
support with just your pinkie? It couldn't have been worse than
carrying a contra, though of course we did get a break with a
simpler drill to march. Hi Mary Lou...Here Comes the Sun!

Hi Guys, The Message Board and Chat room hasn't gotten many
visitors. I was just wondering if it was because it was too
complicated. If anybody has another chat or message service to
recommend, send me an e-mail with your ideas and I'll see if I
can set it up. The Chat room seems pretty easy to get in to. We
just need to set a day and time. Dust off those old photo
albums, and break out the scanner manual. Any and all photo's
are welcome!

Subject: More Trivia
Comments
Here's another trivia contest Who can name all the "rooms" we
used at OLS during rehearsal? I'll start. The Drum Room, both of
them. It may come as a shock to all the old timers, but we got
kicked out of the old Drum Room by the maintenance staff in
1982. They wanted more room and got it. We got their old office
in the narrow hallway near the boiler room. It was tiny. So we
asked for the room right across from the office for our
equipment. It was also small but manageable thanks to alot of
work by parents putting up lots of shelves.
12/3/2000 Bill Sapienza wsap1980@aol.com
Comments
Hi Sal, We used "the White Room" for most horn rehearsals and
Hockey games..lol...and "The Green Room" for Guard and Drill
rehearsals...Remember the Green room Rehearsals with MR
Cluna?. By the way, I still on occasion keep in touch with
Carmen Cluna. He now lives here in Florida and is battling
Alziemers Disease. He does However remember our corps as
well as The Brassmen and St Ignatious.
