1) E-Mail Lists
I created the mail list for this newsletter from posted e-mails
on the Alumni page of the Stormy Knights site. I simply clicked
on the name from the table on the alumni page, when the
"Compose" window came up with the e-mail address, you highlight
the address, and copy it into the Windows clipboard. Then paste
it into a new Address List in your Netscape Address book.
(I did add a few addresses from alumni that have requested their
e-mail not be posted. That's why you don't see the recipient list.)
I like to use Netscape, but if somebody out
there likes
MS Internet Explorer and Outlook, please send
me a note out
with instructions and I'll post it, or you can send it out yourself.
It really isn't that hard. Anyone can do it, with any list of e-mails
you want to create. Give it a try with just a few names to get
the hang of it.
If you don't want to be on any future e-mailings, please reply
with the word "Remove" in the "Subject". If anyone wants to
be the moderator/editor for this newsletter, please drop me
a line. I don't think this would need to go out more than once
a month, quarterly is even OK. (The last one went out on
8/25/2000.) You can define the newsletter to be anything
you want it to be regarding content and schedule.

2) EGroups
I started an "E-Group" at www.egroups.com. If you are
interested in subscribing to the Stormy Knights E-Group,
you can register at the above site. Go to the site, enter the
keyword "stormyknights" in the search field, and you will be
brought to the Stormy Knights sign up page.
The nice thing about this site is they provide an e-mail address:
stormyknights@egroups.com
Anyone can send an email to the above address and it will go
to all subscribed members. Anyone can join. There are currently
only eight members. Come on down!
Even better, anyone can join any e-group, and anyone can start
a new e-group of your specific interest. We're in good company.
Search for "drum corps" and you'll find a Blue Devils e-group.

3) Webshots
You may be interested in checking out the following web site:
www.webshots.com
Please visit the site through the link on the Stormy Knights
affiliate page:
http://www.stormyknights.org/affilates.htm
I won't go into any great detail here as I gave a lot of details
in the 8/25/2000 issue regarding downloading the 1972 corps
photo and ordering a print on line. If you want to see that issue,
please visit the Knightly News archive page.
What I do want to mention is that I can put the 1963 photo
up there if people want me too. This way you can order your
own print, or download a high resolution copy. This takes a bit
of work as I have to massage the photo resolution into something
they will accept, and will also print in decent quality.
If enough people get back to me on posting the 1963 photo on
Webshots I will give it a try. By the way, has anybody ordered
prints from Webshots of the 1972 photo? If so, how did they
turn out?
Whenever you visit the Webshots site please do so from the
Affiliate page on the Stormy Knights site.

4) Links
This was supposed to be a simple heads up for everybody that
has relocated off New York and Long Island that Suffolk County
has a new area code. It is "631".
When I found the following link, I realized this area code
business is pretty complicated. This link will tell you about new
and planned area code changes from West Virginia to Maine.
Take a look at New York, New Jersey and Long Island.
It's a real eye opener.
Have you heard about "Geographic Overlays"? That's when
the telephone company gives an area a new area code, but
overlays it right on top of the existing one. The implications are
that your new next door neighbor may have a different area
code than you do, and in order to dial them, you need
to dial ten digits. Phew!
http://www.bell-atl.com/areacode/
I'll let you in on a little secret. In about ten years, there is
going to be another "software crisis" involving ten digit
telephone numbers. When we run out of area codes and
have to expand beyond ten digits, all the software and
databases in the world that have hard coded field lengths
will have to be rewritten. You heard it here first!
If anybody has any interesting links they want to send me,
I can post them either on the "Links" page or even a separate
"Alumni Links" page. Send me your ideas.
